Do You Love Holiday Countdowns? Create this Valentine’s Day Countdown Banner in 6 Easy Steps!
I am a huge fan of doing Valentine’s Day crafts. My favorite is making Valentine’s cards for all my loved ones. This year I decided I wanted to do a Valentine’s Day Countdown for my grandkids. I researched all different types.
My first thought, of course, was working with paper, my usual go-to for Valentine’s Day projects. But then I came across a few countdowns that were made with felt. Yes! Another favorite crafting material I love!
My next line of business, find which resources and materials I may already have! I searched through my craft closet, gathered my items together and created a plan!
Materials needed:
- Felt – red, light pink, hot pink, heather gray, cream
- Heat transfer paper
- Thread – red, pink, cream
- Number Printout
- Scallop & Heart Printout
- Dowel – cut to 12”
- Red and white bakers twine
- Optional: Number glitter stickers – 1.5”
Resources needed:
- Sewing Machine
- Printer
- Scissors
- Optional: Glue Gun
To fill the countdown hearts:
Step 1 – Gather your materials
Step 2 – Cut 2 banners size 10”x 36” with cream felt. Cut both scallops from printout, pin to red felt and cut out. Next, cut out heart from printout, pin to felt (keep reusing) and cut out 5 light pink, 5 hot pink and 4 red.
Step 3 – Iron heat transfer paper to back of heather gray felt, print the Number Printout and pin to felt/transfer paper. Cut out each number and iron on to hearts. Optional: Use Number Glitter Stickers
Step 4 – Pin the hearts onto one of the cream banners. Sew around the side and bottom of the hearts, leaving the top of the hearts open. Sew the red scallops to the top and bottom of the other cream banner. Next, sew the top of both banners together. Then sew a seam 1” down from the top scallop for a dowel to go through. Finish by sewing around the banner leaving the 1” opening at the top. Optional: Use a glue gun instead of sewing.
Step 5 – Add the dowel through the 1″ opening at top. Cut a 25” piece of bakers twine and tie to each side for hanging.
Step 6 – Print Valentine’s Day Notes, cut and put one in each heart pocket along with candies of your choice!
